ATTENTION: Founders, Executives, Managers and Leaders
From Samatha Allen - CEO, Lean Institute Africa
Most businesses were not prepared for what happened a few months ago. I don't blame any leader for being swept out by the tide of lockdown.
It did pull a number on us.
We went through a period of uncertainty, but lockdown restrictions are easing up. Doing business is going to be easier now.
But I am aware that there are so many businesses that aren't going to make it to the other side. There are a lot of them that aren't coming back from lockdown.
It's sad but that's the reality.
The thing is:
It can be easy to blame the lockdown on what happened to the businesses that aren't going to see the other side.
Some didn't have to go under the way they did.
Something else aided the lockdown in burying them 6 feet under and making sure they don't come back.
Some businesses might still be with us if they avoided simple mistakes. Businesses will fail when you have processes that don't help your team work efficiently and effectively.
Because work takes more time than it should. Your team starts feeling overwhelmed by this and then becomes unproductive.
Then they become disengaged and crucial work never gets done.
Your resources don't get used to their fullest capacity so your overheads cost more money than they should to run your team.
This makes it hard for your team to be successful. Reaching all the goals you set becomes an impossible dream.
Your team wastes time on things that don't produce value for customers. You end up with products and services that aren't the right quality for customers.
They leave you for your competitors and business doesn't go as well as it should, as a result.
Your team end up being riddled with complex problems that are difficult to solve and with no way to overcome them.
You could get away with this in your businesses before the lockdown. Leaders could get away with this...
Resources weren't as tight as they are now.
Those bottlenecks you have in your processes weren't so important to solve. Your team not being as productive as possible wasn't stopping you from delivering your products and services.
But not anymore.
You can't afford to have that happening. No leader can afford that.
Warren Buffet once said, "You never know who's swimming naked until the tide goes out."
Well, the lockdown exposed who was swimming naked.
You can't get away with being inefficient and ineffective during a crisis. Some of the businesses may have had a better chance at survival if their teams were more productive and their resources were used properly.
Jobs could have been protected too.
Lockdown would've been tough but it wouldn't have been a death warrant.
That's why my team and I at Lean Institute Africa created:
It's been expertly designed to help your team succeed in today's tough market.
It's made to help you use Lean Thinking & Methodology so you can streamline your business & managerial processes, get more productivity out of your team, and solve all the problems that stop you from succeeding.

Creating and managing effective processes is the key to delivering high-quality products and services.
Your team is lost without effective processes and you simply cannot deliver the kind of quality that keeps your customers coming back to you.
But leaders make a big mistake when they want to get more work done and deliver high-quality products and services.
They think that they need to add more staff to their team or have their current team do more work.
That almost never works!
It's like pouring water into a leaky bucket and expecting it to hold water.
If your systems and process don't change, your business won't improve. It doesn't matter that you're hiring more employees or having the same number of employees do more work.
It just means that you'll have more unproductive people in your team.
And more overheads, more bottlenecks, and an unhappy, overworked team...
...with absolutely no improvement to show for it and more wasted resources that drain your cash flow.
Your customer value won't improve by just adding more people, or doing more work, and team morale most certainly won't improve either.
That's just doing more of the same.
Instead, you need to create systems that:
And that without question is:
The simplest way to deliver higher quality to your customers and turn your team into a high-performance, customer value creation machine
The fact is:
Getting more people to do more work isn't the best way to deliver high-quality products and services for your customers.
It also isn't the best way to be effective as a leader and manager in business.
Every successful leader knows...
You can't do things that add little to no value for your customers.
You can't compete when your customers are complaining about the quality of your products and service.
Most importantly, you can't become more profitable if your processes & systems are wasteful and lead to bottlenecks and lost time and money.
You have to innovate.
You can't do the same things you've always done. That's a death sentence for your business.
You need to refocus your thinking to deliver new requirements.
You can't afford to use more resources than you already are to deliver your products and services.
You need to use your current resources, or less, to do more.
You can't have tons of products and services you can't sell because of changing customer demand.
That kills your cash flow and jeopardizes your job and your business.
You need to deliver the products and services that your customers are willing to pay for. At a higher standard than your competitors.
Your team can't be doing work that doesn't drive customer value.
You need to empower your team to do valuable work that improves customer experience and adds to your bottom-line.
You will survive and thrive in a cutthroat and rapidly changing market.
Lean Foundations is built to help you do that using Lean Thinking and Methodology.
Here are just a few of the things you'll learn in Lean Foundations:
"Get organised and eliminate waste and save money and save time"
That's where the A3 Problem-solving Method comes in.
It's called that because you literally only need an A3 piece of paper to use to solve any and all the problems that plague your business and your team.
It will help you:
Use a calm, rational way to solve problems instead of relying on knee-jerk methods that only make your situation worse.
Implement a structured approach to problem-solving that's well thought out and tested in many industries.
Delegate responsibility to your team and enable them to solve their own problems and those you're facing as a business.
Implement tangible improvements in your business that can reduce costs instead of wasting time with reoccurring problems
